Greek ex-minister detained on money laundering charges

Former Greek Cabinet minister Yannos Papantoniou was jailed awaiting trial on money laundering charges, two officials working for the Greek prosecution service said.

The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the decision followed charges pressed last year by Heleni Touloupaki, who heads Greece’s special prosecutorial body fighting corruption, accusing Papantoniou of having more than €3 million in undeclared income in the name of his wife while he was defense minister between 2001 and 2004.
